D32 death and losing someone: perhaps the book wanted is an earlier edition of the book suggested, since the 3d edition was published in 1996 and the book wanted was bought in 1995. This appears to be Matilda�s Masterpiece by Mary Anderson, later reprinted as The Mystery of the Missing Painting. I had it in the early to mid eighties but I think it may have been a second-hand book. The cover has a picture of the magic bus flying through the sky with the children looking out the window."

That might help to narrow down the search. Without more information, this is the only title I can think of. There were several major revisions, but the sets published between 1938-1960 might be worth looking into. Those stories do make a lasting impression, don't they?! I think the front or inner cover page had a picture of a brown rabbit running, and a beautiful leafy background. Mike Connors played Joe Mannix, a Los Angeles private detective, in the popular TV series Mannix that ran for 8 years (1967 – 1975).
